    Hi Brian –

Just read your blog post about your father’s experience on March 2nd in the Hochwald Gap as part of D Company. My Great Uncle, Lance Corporal Douglas Davison, was amongst the soldiers of A Company who had been tasked with connecting with Alg D Company and the LSR on March 2nd, before they were forced to retreat due to constant shelling and serious casualties. Douglas was struck by shell fragments and died on March 3rd of his wounds. Love to continue the conversation if you have more information to share.

      Hi Chris

Dad told me about some of their battle in Hochwald Gap. After he passed in his mid-50s, I worked with the guys he’d worked with — all of the older ones War Vets — who gave me more details.

The best resource I’ve found is G L Cassidy’s WARPATH. Used copies of that book are getting scarcer and more expensive. I see “L/Cpl. D. Davison” is in the Casualties list for that battle. Dad’s name is in the “Missing” category.

I had a recent email from a grand-daughter of a survivor who said that the Algonquins “were given very few replacements. They fought bravely with what they had.” I’m still searching for that Legion Magazine issue with the Hochwald Gap article.

It’s been great meeting people who care about what our family members once achieved for Canada.

I loved all Hudson and Rex posts and am sad that John Reardon is not returning. However, having had cancer myself some years ago, and still hanging on; I can understand Mr. Reardon’s decision…particularly when one has a family!! Nevertheless, he will be missed by a lot of viewers That said, I wish John Reardon the very, very best! Hopefully the rest of the crew will be able to manage other seasons!!???

      Hi Barbara.
Thanks for your message. Yes, we’re gonna miss the Original Rex and John. We’re such big fans. But we’ll be tuning in when Season 8 starts/
